Great step forward in India


To combat child labour, Press club in Delhi organized press conference to discuss upon this subject to have best results.  India is ratifying two global conventions,  that is International Labour Organization (ILO) minimum age convention, 1973(no 138) and Child Labour Convention, 1999(no 182).

These conventions have been ratified to bring all the world’s children under the ambit of the legislations. During a conference in Press club in Delhi, it was disclosed that a top UN official stated that this is a Great step forward in India towards universal ratification which means that almost all the children in the world will be covered by convention 182.

Bandaru Dattatreya, the labor minister who represents India in the conference, said the amended child labour central rules completely prohibited employment of children aged below 14years in any occupation or process and adolescents aged 14-18 years in any hazardous occupation and processes.

While discussing about this in press club in Delhi, the director general guy Ryder said that around the world, there are still 168 million children in child labour, and 85 million among them are into hazardous work.  The rules that are amended provides a board and specific framework for the prevention, prohibition, recue and rehabilitation of child and adolescents workers.

The meeting that was held in the press club in Delhi came to a conclusion that all are striving for to achieve the elimination of child labour by 2025. In India, press club in India is one among the best known press clubs.
